William Buergler was born in Northwest Arkansas to a prominent Catholic banking family. The oldest of seven children, William had to carve his identity early on, and most believe this is when he developed his patented smirk and permanent mustache. It was also at this young age that William turned to golf. A silver-spoon, country club kid if there ever was one, William used these fiscal advantages and his intimidating smirk and mustache to quickly move up the ranks of Arkansas junior golf. Unfortunately, William’s short temper and club throwing would eventually derail a once promising golf career.
William then turned his attention to academics to try and position himself for his first love, Tax Accounting. William became a National Merit Scholar and attended Oklahoma State University on a full academic scholarship. It was here, perhaps out of boredom, that William began following the Grateful Dead and selling grilled cheese sandwiches out of his car. Interestingly, he is the only person in history to actually report such income to the IRS.
Eventually the golf bug bit William again. Not realizing that public courses existed, William joined Twin Hills Country Club and immediately purchased several pairs of tight plaid shorts. Two years later William would shoot 83, 84 to win the Twin Hills Club Championship. The following year, William made Partner and moved to Gardeniaville.
In the winter, it’s easy to spot William on the golf course. He will be the snappy dressed, snidely, thin-mustached, club throwing, handicap builder, with a black cloud hovering overhead. He will usually be handing someone money. A warm weather specialist, William is the defending champion of the Annual Golf Trip Major.
