After much discussion about whether or not Haggard/Buergler should even be in the Championship Flight, they rolled out Saturday afternoon to prove the naysayers wrong. Haggard even went so far as to bet Jeff 200 points that they would win their next match against Alsup/Heldmar. You either have to admire Haggard’s spirit or question his judgment, but most of us knew how this one was going to turn out. Walking through the clubhouse I just glanced at the Championship Trophy and saw Alsup’s name on it 6 times. Something tells me he isn’t frightened of William’s 72 from the golds at Cedar.
Anyhow, in predictable fashion, Alsup/Heldmar par 15 consecutive holes and win 4 and 2. The momentum of the match seem to turn on William’s 3-putt on #4…#7…#9….#11…#12…and #15. None of which would have been as crucial if Haggard’s ball wasn’t in his pocket all day.
Alsup/Heldmar went on to win the Tournament.
